Assessment & Diagnosis

Picture
A thorough assessment and diagnostic process is essential in understanding what is happening with a young person so  appropriate supports and treatment planning can be put in place. A detailed report is provided to gain a picture of the young person's cognitive, emotional, social, and academic functioning.

Having been training as a psychologist, I provide diagnostic testing for children, adolescents, and young adult. This involves determining if a diagnosis is appropriate and measures of assessment of severity.

I am trained in administration of the following:
- Weschler IQ tests and scales  (WPPSI, WISC, WAIS, WAIT)
- Other intelligence and achievement tests and scales (DAS, WRAT)
-Developmental Assessment measures (Bayley)
-Adaptive skills and behaviours (BASC, Vineland)
-Tests for ADHD (Connars)
- Tests for Autism (ADOS, SRS)

I am trained in assessing complex presentations of trauma and personality issues using reliable and valid measures of psychopathology (eg MMPI, MCMI, BDI, BAI).

Treatment

Following a comprehensive diagnositic  assessment, we  can then start planning treatment if needed. I am trained in the evidenced based therapeutic approaches:
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialetical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Maudsley Family Therapy (FBT) treatment for eating disoders
  • Maudsley Model Of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment in Adults (MANTRA)
  • Skills Based Caring
  • Parent Effectiveness Training (PET)

Treatment can be short, medium, or longer term depending on what's happening for the young person.

Case Coordination

Picture
In the care of a young person,  in particular children and adolescents, additional supports and a team approach is often best.

I work within an integrated support approach involving the young person and their parents, family, school, and other health providers such as general practitioners, paediatricians, psychiatrists, dietitians, school counsellors, and speech and occupational therapists.

Clinical Supervision

I provide supervision to psychologists, therapists and school counsellors. This supervision can be for the purpose of gaining registration with AHPRA, as I am board approved, or as a part of professional development. I assist psychologists in complex case conceptualisation to enhance their skills in providing care to their clients and their families.
